Here are a few basic different types of measuring tools that we come across every now and then.

1. Tape Measure

Tape measures are the most basic tools that every household is bound to have.

There are two kinds of tape measures. One is enclosed in a shell, it is meant for the times when the tape is supposed to be extended longer. The other one is simply soft so that it can be curved.

The latter kind is used by tailors so that they can curve the tape around the client’s body parts. The one with the shell is meant for construction sites.

2. Laser Level

A laser level isn’t just important for carpenters. It is crucial for you even when you have to hang a picture on your wall.

It is very easy to use one. You just put it on a surface and see if the vials on it are leveled. The vials make it easier to judge.

There are also digital levels available in the market. They have a digital display, and it is always easier to decipher readings on a digital display than a manual one.

3. Calipers

Calipers are one of the most common measuring tools. They have been around for quite a while now. They are used to measure the length between two sides of something accurately up to two decimal places.

The upper jaws are used to measure the internal diameter of a cylinder, and the lower jaws are used to measure its external diameter.

The digital calipers display the measurement digitally. They are made from stainless steel.

4. Squares

A square is very important for finding and marking the right angles. They are used by carpenters all the time. The squares are also critical for framing. They come in handy when you need to make markings.

We might have all used protractors in high school. They were not of much importance there other than solving mathematical problems. However, in real life, it makes very complex issues possible.

They are made up of plastic, and they are used to determine the angles. It is used by scientists and architects all over the world to make complex angle measurements possible.

7. Thermometers

you may already have one in your house for the sake of measuring body temperature.

However, there are many other kinds of thermometers too that are needed to keep an eye out for temperatures of other things, too, like the atmosphere.

There are traditional thermometers as well as the digital ones. Of course, the readings in digital thermometers are easier to read.

8. Stopwatch

A stopwatch is a device that is used to measure time under controlled conditions.

Whatever time interval you want to measure, you start the stopwatch in the beginning by pressing the on the button, and then you press the same button when you ought to stop.

Then, you look at the reading on the stopwatch to see how much time has passed.

9. Measuring Cups

A measuring cup isn’t something you can overlook so easily. Usually, they are meant for culinary purposes, but once you have them, you will find that there are many other useful tasks that they can perform too.

They are used by chemists as well as physicists. The main idea behind them is to help measure the exact amount of liquid in a place.

Coming back to the basics, we have a ruler. There is no denying how useful they are.

A compass is used for the sake of making circles and even making measurements sometimes. They are not just necessary for academics, but also important when it comes to practical life.

Most commonly, they are used in carpentry.

12. Angle Gauge

More than a protractor, an angle gauge is used to measure angles very accurately. They are inexpensive than most tools and provide an easy to read the measurement.

Since the gauge is digital, it provides you more data than a protractor.

13. Angle Locator

An angle locator is meant for measuring angles in the harder to reach places. The circular side is called the crust. It holds the protractor and shows the reading.

The other two arms can measure any angle below ninety degrees. You are supposed to place both the arms flat on any surface, of whose angle you will be measuring.

After you have adjusted the arms, remove the device from that place, and take the reading. This is your final reading.

14. Pressure Gauge

lastly, we have a pressure gauge. They are supposed to measure the pressures of water and air. An air pressure gauge will measure air, and a water pressure gauge is supposed to measure water.

For example, an air pressure gauge can be used to check the pressure of air in tires.

All of the above-mentioned tools are the ones used either in day to day life or are very critical for professionals.

They are very basic, and it is important that everyone knows about them.
